1. Marked by extreme and violent energy.

2. Marked by extreme intensity of emotions and convictions, inclined to react violently; fervid.

3. Ruthless in competition.

4. Violently agitated and turbulent.

5.  A word that can describe something as outstanding, really cool, eye catching, brutal and satisfying.

There is something beautiful about that word. It just sounds right. From the Latin Ferus (untamed) and the old French Fiers (brave and proud), ‘Fierce’ always conjures up images of regal danger and a wild beauty in our minds every time we say it-a lioness (because it’s the lionesses who do all the hunting) on the prowl, slowly stalking its prey, a real gleam of hunger in her eyes. ROAR!

Buqisi-Ruux believes in strong women. Strong women who are not afraid of conquering mountains because they are mountains themselves. Strong women who face their challenges with heels on their feet and their heads held high. Strong women with ferocity and passion in their hearts. We’re proud of the fact that Africa is teeming with women like these  and we’re proud of the fact that we get to make beautiful African print heels just for them. Africa is a fierce continent, but its women are fiercer.

It has always been our mission and our passion to create wearable pieces of art that convey the beauty and diversity of African women. Each of our shoes represents a characteristic inherent to all women on the continent. This characteristic serves as the theme of the shoe, influencing everything from its fabric to the look of its heel. Since each heel is named after an inspirational woman we know, it always shares its characteristic with that woman. And there is no shoe in our collection and no woman we know quite as fierce as

The Barungi is an ‘ama rock this and look fierce doing it’ kind of shoe. It is not for the faint of heart-definitely the farthest thing from I-need-to-fit-in. This is a shoe for a woman who knows herself, who isn’t afraid to stand out. The purple suede and Kente fabric give the Barungi its ‘Daring’ aspect. “Stand in my way if you dare.” She seems to say.

And just as unafraid, just as unfazed, is the woman who inspired the shoe-Camilla Barungi.

A model and an entrepreneur all rolled into one spectacular package, Camilla is a force to be reckoned with. One third beauty, one third brains, one third passion and fire, she lives in New York, New York and is signed to one of the top modeling agencies in the world, working for top designers such as Giorgio Armani, Tommy Hilfiger, Oscar De La Renta, Isabel Toledo. She was discovered while pursuing a degree in Biochemistry at San Jose State University in California, an education she put to good use when she set up African Moringa, a company that provides dietary and cosmetic products made from the wonder tree Moringa.

Born right here in Uganda, Camilla like many of the other women who inspire our heels represents the evolution of a modern African woman-straddling two worldviews; one global and modern, the other African and traditional; which allows her to offer something uniquely different to the world. Something a little like our African print heels.

Camilla’s success as a model and an entrepreneur rests on her determination, her drive. You have to be tough and you have to be passionate. You’ve got to get up when you fall. But most of all, you’ve got to be…

They say that perfection is something you can never consciously achieve. Part of that is probably a result of the fact that every person has their own definitions of what perfection is. It could mean getting every angle or challenge correct, as quickly and as simply as possible. To others, it could mean joy, happiness and pleasure. Either way, it’s really all in the eyes of the beholder.

But there are certain definitions of perfection that we all share, that one thing most of us can all point to and say ‘that there is the ish.’

It’s 2016 (New Year, New Energy) and Buqisi-Ruux is still doing it, moving it-sharing a little piece of Africa with the world through our unique African print heels dedicated to the single ‘Hell-Yes-Inducing’ purpose of uplifting every aspect of the African woman. We’re talking about beauty, intelligence, passion, strength, diversity and compassion. The curtains open and the choir sings: WE DON’T JUST WANT YOU TO LOOK GREAT, WE WANT YOU TO BE GREAT!

So, what makes a woman great- what, dare we say it, characterizes the perfect woman?

We like to think that each heel we make is a unit of perfection, born from an unruly, often times chaotic, mixture of dedication, creativity and collaboration. The closest, nearest thing to perfection, for us, is a pair of our heels.

Defining why we think our heels are perfect incidentally makes it easier for us to give you our thoughts on what makes a great woman great.

Here we go, our Anatomy of Perfection.

The key word we like to attach to our heels is ‘unique’. We’d like to think that you won’t find a pair of heels like ours anywhere in the world. Each shoe in our collection comes in different versions because we understand that in order to really step up, you need to stand out.

In much the same way, great women aren’t afraid to walk their own path. Their unique perspective means that they bring something new to the table which often times makes the difference between success and failure.

We love our heels so much because we love making them. From their conception up until you slide them onto your feet, we take great care to ensure that every step is meticulously taken. All the hard work and dedication pays off every time somebody describes our heels as ‘wearable pieces of art.’

And that’s the thing with great women, they love what they do. They can weather any storm and put out any fire simply because they are persistent in achieving their goals.

In order for our shoes to be wearable pieces of art, we need to ensure quality. This is a natural consequence of passion. We want our shoes to make you look great and for that to happen, we understand that they need to be great. To ensure this, we pay absolute attention to detail. From the purple outsole to the unique fabrics, we want you to have only the best.

An eye towards quality is also what sets great women apart. It’s not enough that they want to achieve their goals but it’s also important to them that they do so the best way they can.

There we go. It’s not the most complete list, but it is the closest to perfection we could come up with.

We’re Buqisi-Ruux, and in 2016 we’re making

Perfect heels for perfect women.

New Year Resolutions are something of a tradition.

After Christmas, most of us come up with a list of things we could do better in the year to come. For many, New Year’s Resolutions are all about putting more effort into being a better person in all aspects of life. This could mean changing a bad habit or simply picking up a new one. The really beautiful thing, however, about New Year’s Resolutions is that they offer a lot of people the opportunity and the desire to actively want to be better. In order to walk on the road to greatness, you have to take that all-important first step.

January first is one of the few days where everyone agrees and believes that everything and anything is possible. When the clock strikes midnight, it’s hard to find a single moment throughout the year that is as joyful or hopeful. It is, in a sense, a lot like that first step. The thing about success in life, then, is that it’s all about maintaining that feeling, that drive to be better. In order for our New Year’s Resolutions to have any real impact, we have to be completely committed to seeing them through.

As the fireworks go boom-boom-boom, Buqisi-Ruux is bringing more of that drive into our shoes and into everything we do. Like everybody else, we have our own little list of resolutions and priorities we’ll be pushing in 2016, at the top of which is our commitment to be the African footwear brand that celebrates women in all their diversity, vibrancy and boldness. Hubba-hubba. We want wearing our African print heels to be an experience.  We’ve said it before, but we’ll sing it again for good measure: We don’t just want you to look great in our heels; we want you to be great.

We call this little list our SHOE YEAR RESOLUTIONS because we truly believe that 2016 will be the year for African designer heels, and also because we know you love shoes. Our Shoe Year Resolutions go beyond just creating beautiful and authentic heels, wearable pieces of art as we like to say, but also helping African women make an impact on the continent.

Our Shoe Year Resolutions look a little like this:

  1. To be the leading global African footwear designer and distributor of authentic heels that lets you experience the beauty and diversity of African women.
  2. To put more African women in our shoes. To find our Killa shoelines in every corner of the continent and the planet.
  3. To empower women towards success by exposing them to stories affecting women all over the world while profiling other incredible African women who are making an impact on the continent.
  4. To find an Ainebyona in Beyonce’s or Lupita N’yongo’s wardrobe. And hopefully, yours as well.

We want to wish you an amazing, absolutely incredible New Years. May 2016 offer you all you’ve looking for and more.

After we’ve all come down from however we’ve been celebrating, we’d like to invite you to take a moment to think about your Shoe Year Resolutions. If there was ever a year to make them all happen, then it’s this one. After all, anything and everything is possible on New Year’s Day.
